Toys For Tots update

There are a few things I can hardly wait for. One right now that relates to my list of 101 in 1001 is shopping each month for the Toys for Tots. I wanted to share with what I bought total for the last 4 months of 2010 and 2011. Some items were duplicated, partly out of forgetting what I had gotten and also looking at what I had to spend at that time. I am going to do a list next year to not do that again. And I am hoping that the budget will allow for no "small" toys. Either way, its the thought that counts and I think all are fun. I was just trying to think of the bigger kids vs younger. Am hoping to also throw in Cabbage Patch doll next year. Some bigger Lego sets too.

I have a couple pics that I will have on my FB page but here I will list with 1 photo only:
There were 2 Lego Creator (1 "3in1 Mini Plane" and 1 "3in1 Mini Digger"), 2 Lego Creator "3in1 Transport Truck", 2 Lego "Hero Factory", 2 "Sorry" board games, 1 "Operation", 1 "Candyland", 1 "Chutes and Ladders", 2 "Cootie Bugs", 1 Basketball, 1 Soccerball, and 1 Baseball with 2 balls.

Complete: Have a Glass of Mead

I was at Epcot this year, Food and Wine Festival 2011, and had a glass of mead. It was actually pretty good. I was also given a bit of an extra pour which was good too. I would like to have some more some time.

Walking 3 Times a Week (Updated/Incomplete)

Well, I did pretty well until April 15th. That day was really the last day I walked. I did 8 miles that morning with friends who were walking for a cause. Their goal was 25. I was amazed I did more than 3. I was arguing via text with my ex BF and it was a great walk. The arguing didn't last the who time, may just a mile or so. I think I would've gone further had I been able to keep the pace we were doing, but we joined up with another group and they were going faster. I lasted another mile and then I was out. I had blisters starting and it wasn't worth it to kill myself. The blisters are not what kept me from walking again though. I am not sure what it was. I do hope to start again, but this task goes to the incomplete side and $5 goes to charity.

Complete: Lose 15 Pounds by my 25th Reunion

Nope... didn't lose 15 pounds. I lost 32!!!!!!!!! And have kept it off. It is awesome and today my friend Casey paid me a huge complement. Actually there was 2 of them but since I wasn't wearing scrus and I was wearing real clothes, she was amazed. It was great! I have more to lose but that is a great start. Haven't been following any diet. I haven't been walking, but am hoping to get that going again. There is also some planning for going to a class to work out too. I have been trying to not eat late, cut down on sugar, soda and carbs. You need some carbs, but picking the right ones is better.

Complete: Pay off/help pay off my sister's car

A few months ago my niece was in a car accident, caused by someone else, that caused the car to be totaled out. Well, that caused the car to be paid off technically, but a new car was needed. We probably should've said, "You get this much because that is what the settlement is." but we gave a little more. Why??? Because we didn't want her to get a piece of crap that she would be calling on to get repair for. Thankfully, my niece is a lot more car savvy than her mom and knows how to do some things like change the oil. So, I have helped in that sense and the car is no longer in my mom's name which is the goal.

Spending $30 Every Other Month Towards Interfaith (Updated/Incomplete)

Mission statement:

Interfaith Emergency Services is a not-for-profit organization which brings together people of all faiths who seek to minister to persons in need through combined prayer and action. We strive to be the church in action and to find unity in purpose through our singular and combined faith and dictate to love and serve our fellow man. Our History: In 1983, the religious pastoral community in Marion County saw a need to provide emergency assistance to individuals and families in crisis. With a minimal group of workers, Interfaith Emergency Services was given birth. For more than two decades, Interfaith has continued to serve the people of Marion County with sincere Christian love and caring devotion.

11/30/2010 - I was at church Sunday (the 28th) and saw that there was a change on needs for Interfaith. Previously, they were asking for food items like speghetti and sauce, other items that are canned or non parishable. They were now asking for personal care items. I went to the dollar store last night and was able to pick up a lot I think, especially with multipacks. I spent a little over my goal, which is fine. I may go there again for when I shop for the Rape Crisis/Spouse abuse center. Both are benevolences that my church serves. It is nice to help others.

I did this a total of 3 times but failed to write about them. I will be adding $5 to the pot for the charity that will be getting whatever I do not complete out of the 1001 days.

Spending $30 Every Other Month for Spouse Abuse/Rape Crisis Center (Updated/Incomplete)

11/1/2010 ~ For starters, next time I do my 101 in 1001, this should be more money I think and if I can increase it this time around I will. I did my first donation/purchase this past weekend (10/30/2010) and already I want to do this one more regularly than every other month. This can be something I change when I redo my next 101 in 1001 list. I purchased some items and then called to find out how to get it to them. I have directions to the Outreach center and will drop off the items I got today. I found out that some of the items I got were good, but they needed some others that I hadn't gotten. Anything was welcome.

12/24/2010 ~ I took my donation of $30 dollars to the Spouse Abuse/Rape Crisis Center so they would have a little something for Christmas. Wasn't much though. Again, it really needs to be a higher donation. I also took a lot of stuffed animals and toys/games that I had had. Figured they could use them for something. Just need so much more.

I did this one 3 times before I failed it. I just forgot to blog it. I will be trying to pick this back up to help them out but it's going to be $5 toward the charity of choice when this 1001 day list is completed.

Completed: Pay Off 4 Out of 5 or All My Medical Bills From My Car Accident

4/18/2011 ~ Today I paid off one of my medical bills. Thought I would pay a second one, and still may be able too. Will have to see what happens with a couple other bills I am paying on.

7/18/2011 ~ I paid off another today!!!! And I will confirm, having time to stop and take care of it, if I pay another off this afternoon (or morning). Hopefully, the billing office is where I remember it being at. This is a very liberating feeling.

I really need a balance from my massage therapist for the last that I am aiming to do in this time frame. I really would like to be debt free by the end of this year, and I really think I can be. I have been very blessed. God is wonderful! You should try Him sometime if you haven't or if you have gotten away from him.

8:23pm - YAY!!! I did pay off the other too! It's an awesome feeling. I may not really be 100% debt free by the end of the year, but I would say I could be 25% away from by then.

11/1/2011 I was in for my massage and Sally told me what the balance was. She had been telling me it was a lot more than it turned out. Not sure why, but I have paid it off!!!! The outstanding balance to the Chiropractor is going to be covered and paid off from the settlement. I almost thought that this last one would be also, but the lawyer is very slow moving. I just figured that with that little bit, I was going to do it and feel very successful!

Writing a Letter/Note a Month to a Friend (Updated/Incomplete)

When I started my endeavor of my 101 in 1001, I had shared the list with a friend prior to the release. She liked the idea and started her own list. When I started my list officially, I received flowers from Tracey. They a beautiful. Starting to fade now, but their memory will last. She checked off something on her list by sending me the flowers and I sent her a note to thank her for them. This note was the first letter/note that will kick off this pleasure. I think that letter/note writing is a lost art. So many people think about just emailing and calling. It is easier, but I know I love getting a letter/note from a friend. I like to know how things are in their life.

10/30/2010 I did a note to a friend who is having some trouble. I want to do more for here and might be one of my random gifts to a friend. I hope I can do more to really help that what I can do in the next month. I also need to find a way to do it, without her knowing right off. That is why I am keeping the name off of here.

11/30/2010 I did a note to an old friend, Shari, that I haven't heard from in awhile. I hope to hear back from her via email or FB. Hoping that all is well with her and her family.

12/31/2010 I wrote a note to my sister. It was also one of my letters of people who inspired me letters.

Today, 1/11/2011, (or as mom said in recovery... "one one one one... one") I wrote a note to a friend I met at the hospital where we were. Her name is Grace. She is a wonderful Italian woman who is very inspiring. She is in a wheelchair and helped head the volunteers at the hospital. She and her husband moved, which I wasn't aware of. I got her note yesterday. The timing was very good because I would've been VERY worried why she wasn't at the hospital today when we were there. I missed seeing her though.

2/28/2011- I sent a letter to a friend that is an honor to know. She is one of my 4 Disney friends I can go to when my faith is down or needs some restoration etc. Glenda is so strong in her faith and inspiring. She has a great smile. She recently lost her mother and I can only imagine the pain she was feeling but she made a comment that just defined her and her faith. Was about knowing she will see her mom again because of their faith. What a blessing! I know that doesn't ease the pain most days... but it's wonderful to know.

3/10/2011 add on: I received a private message from Glenda. "Thank you so much for your letter! glad I was picked this time for you to write to! I haven't received a letter in YEARS! Thanks again!" I am glad that I wrote her too!

3/25/2011 - I have written to my friend Christiann. I was enjoying some tea she sent me this past weekend with my mom and sister. I decided that I would write her. The tea is wonderful... and I have some to enjoy in a bit.

4/25/2011 - I wrote a letter to my mom. This is also one of my letters to 5 people who have inspired me etc. I know she is going to cry, which isn't my intention at all. Her strength is outstanding and I love her for showing me the grace she has when she was first diagnoised with cancer.

About the 14th May 2011 I wrote a letter with a lot of info in it for an ex BF for a trip to WDW that he was going to be taking with his son, daughter and grandson. I did not only do the letter though but maps, hotel information and more. He said it was helpful. Glad that I was good for something being I have been having a rough time with my self-esteem again.

In June 2011 I wrote a letter to my friend Christiann again. She sent me some tea for my birthday and a special tea mug. There was also a book about tea that I haven't gotten to sit and read yet. I also wrote a thank you note to the every lovely, Heather French. I had received from her 3 autographed bottles of wine from the Biltmore Estate. Heather was suppose to do 2 lables and then something happened to cancel her doing it. The Estate released someone else's lable design when it should have been Heather. I wrote to the Estate and complained. Heather got the information that someone had writte and she was doing the next lable. This was released in April. As a thank you, I receieved the bottles. I haven't enjoyed one yet, but would love to press the bottle and return it to her as a serving plate for cheese or crackers.

July 26th 2011, I wrote a letter, 1 page to someone in my life, who isn't "in" my life. I gave them the option of being able to reach if they so chose. No pressure at all is my intent. There was another letter written that day too. One that I have no mailing address for but was as equally important. I had to email it. It was to Mark. He was there that day and was a blessing. I had to thank him. He emailed me back and I treasure that he felt it was a special day for him too.

On 31st July 2011, while still in Baton Rouge visiting R. I wrote a letter to Linda. She was important in A. many ways for me 22 years ago, and I hope she can/will/may forward the other letter that was written on the 26th. She too was a thank you note that was long overdue.

Update: Linda called me today (8/18/2011) regarding my letter to her and the other part that she has now forwarded. If it is meant to be, then it will be. Either way, it is a blessing!

Unfortunately I have let this slide by and it is an incomplete item. I hope to get back to it though but $5 is going to a good cause!

Completed: Do the Race for the Cure in Orlando against Breast Cancer

I am on my way to do this task! I am not just doing one though... I am doing 2! This is kind of big for me. I am looking forward to make a difference in this fight. Here are some links if you want to make a difference also. I want to thank you for even the thought of helping. I hope to report back in October that I made a huge difference.

5/25/2011
I wish I could come up with a great flyer/logo for the breast cancer walk I am going to do. I have seen ideas I like. I am just not sure what to do. I saw some shirt ideas too for the guys shirts... if there are any. Will be fun to do. Maybe I need to go to one of the designers who has helped me before. I was hoping to have a flyer this weekend..  but Im just not sure. I emailed one of the organizations that I am walking with. Hope to hear from them soon about images.

7/25/2011
I got a logo... now I HAVE to get my teams organized and raise some money.

11/5/2011
I have done both walks and it was great!!! What an amazing event to be a part of! I met a few people but unfotunately no names to share. I raised $1010 under my name for the 2 walks ($325 for Suncoast and $685 for Central Florida, including the Tshirt vote) , $25 under the team name, $40.53 for the Tshirt vote totaling $750 for Central Florida. Suncoast total was $325.

I am hoping to do again next year, but would like to do somewhere else. Not sure where, and may only do one. We will see. I have my thank you cards to do and I may work on tonight while I was some football.  I am thankful to all those who cheered me on and supported me and the team.

26 Movies I Have Never Seen and Each Startes With a Letter of the Alphabet

11/7/2010 - Okay, this is my movie list I want to watch for each letter of the alphabet. Some might get swapped out with what comes to the movie theaters, hopefully not a classic one. The ones with * are from the 100 list of classic movies of all times. I thought I would get 2 lists worked on at the same time.

Annie Hall - watched this on 12/11/2010 and it was a struggle. Hope that is the worst of my movies on my list! Couldn't stand the Woody Allen character. I avoid people like that more and more. They are energy drainers and I would probably kill someone if I was stuck with them.

Bonnie and Clyde - watched this on 1/1/2011. Was a good movie and was interesting to see the original photographs in the beginning. Found it interesting too that this was Gene Wilders debut. He looked so young! And also in this... Denver Pyle. The name sounded familar but not the face. Well, think about it... when I remember seeing Denver Pyle he was in Grizzly Adams and Dukes of Hazzard. He was much older then.

Citizen Kane - 7/12/2011 Started watching some of my movies again. I know the answer about "Rosebud". At times, the movie was too drawn out and yet, it wasn't. I guess if I had been an editor, I would've taken out some trivial stuff, but I'm not and that is probably more of why it is a classic. LOL It was interesting to see Orsen Wells young... thin.

Dr. Zhivago - 7/16/2011 Another one from the classics list that I am using here. Was pretty good actually. Long, and does show the "intermission" like "Gone With the Wind" has. The movie had 2 people I didn't recognize at first. The first one was Rob Steiger. He played Victor.. who is the bad guy of the movie. I didn't like the character for a few reasons. The other was Alec Guinness (sp). who narrated the story some. Overall, the movie was well done for the tragedy that it was.

The French Connection - 1/9/2011 Mom and I watched this one. It was a little slow going at first but got going pretty good finally. They should redo this movie. I bet my dad watched this movie and/or read the book. I don't recall seeing the book around though. I am surprised I hadn't seen it before because of him.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - 7/13/2011 This wasn't on my list. I didn't realize there was a trilogy I guess, and yet, I now recall something on CBS Sunday Morning. I am going to see this again in a couple weeks, and may have the others with me also. There is some sexual scenes but moreso one that in particular is violent. Kind of gave me the chills. The story though... was good. A who dunnit and surprised ending. I couldn't figure out the one thing I didn't like about a character... and then I realized it. It was who the character is in real life. It was Christopher Plummer. I didn't like him being this bad guy.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - saw on 11/19/2010 at the midnight opening premier. I would like to see it again, especially before part 2 comes out.

Julie and Julia - 7/23/2011 I enjoyed taking a break and seeing this cute movie. Glad I didn't go to theater to see it, but enjoyable.

The King's Speech - Mom and I went on 1/30/2011 to see this movie and it was incredible! There was  moments of laughter and seriousness. I even got teary eyed. THIS is a movie I will add to my collection.

The Maltese Falcon  - 4/1/2011 I watched this with Mom. I was told to go home and relax, so I figured that this would be a good way to unwind. The movie was really good and had surprises in it for me. I really did enjoy it.

Send Flowers to 3 Friends, Just Because

6/23/2011 I sent my friend Danielle some flowers. She is a really sweet person, who has a great sense of humor. Her family is a riot with their back and forth banter. She and I would like to trade locations at this time, because someone I want to see is there and she wants to leave there so badly. Soon though, I will see her there. Can hardly wait! I have something for her when I see her.

10 Classic Movies I Have Never Seen

11/7/2010 - I have 10 movies that I took from the AFI list of 100 greatest movies from all times that I have never seen before. There are a few that I know about, as I may have caught a glimpse of them when flipping channels but never stayed with to watch. The ones with * are going to be carried over onto my list of 26 movies that I haven't seen and has a letter for each of the alphabet.

11/29/2010 - I have my Netflix queue lined up with this bunch of movies to get them knocked out. I think I will watch some of them with my mom as I am sure she will enjoy them too. Okay, so I do plan some things out.

Annie Hall - watched on 12/10/2010 and it was a struggle. I saw Woody Allen's character as someone I know and made my skin crawl

Bonnie and Clyde - 1/1/2011 mom and I watched this. Was good. Saw some familar names in it that I wasn't aware were in it.

The French Connection - 1/9/2011 Mom and I watched this. Wasn't too bad. Would be a good one for them to redo.

The Maltese Falcon - 4/1/2011 I watched this with Mom. I was told to go home and relax, so I figured that this would be a good way to unwind. The movie was really good and had surprises in it for me. I really did enjoy it.

Citizen Kane - 7/12/2011 I finally got this one watched. I just haven't been wanting to sit down and watch a movie. I decided this week though that I would get going again on my list. I know the answer now about "Rosebud". The movie was interesting in the a psychological sense to me but there was also some parts that were a little drawn out. I don't know if I would've picked this to see outside of it being a classic on the list. I am glad to have seen it though.

Doctor Zhivago - 7/16/2011 I was surprised by this movie. It was long... but kept my interest. I don't know how I want to describe it though. I don't want to give the story or plot. There was a sense of honor in it... and torn between loves. I didn't recognize Rob Steiger until much later in the movie. Another was Alec Guinness (sp). In the beginning, I wasn't paying as much attention at the character, as to what the information he was giving to set the story. Later, he was narrating a section that I began to focus on the voice.

Give/Send 5 Random Gifts to Friends

1/8/2011 - I saw a friend today that I met for lunch. I decided upon leaving the house to grab something I had made and give it to her, making her the first of my 5 random gifts to friends. I also decided to do something separate and similar that has to do with handmade items. That won't count here. For me, it's something separate.

2/13/2011 - I purchased a stuffed Mickey at Epcot today and had it sent to the son of a High School friend's friend. This young man just had surgery for cancer. He is a brave and strong young man. He has a wish coming up with the Make a Wish foundation. Maybe he will go and say hi to Mickey now.

4/18/2011 - I sent a signed and personalized copy of "Kingdom Keepers" to a friend's son for a late birthday present. I had asked if he liked to read and his mom said yes. Haven't heard if it was received yet.

6/14/2011 - I ordered a gift for R.'s son K. He had said the night before leaving WDW that he didn't get his Stitch. Well, Stitch is on his way to K. I hope he likes it. R. said that he will skype then so I can see K. open it.

(update: K likes his Stitch a lot!)

Opened Them Up

I had been debating for awhile about showing my progress on the works of my 101 things in 1001 days project and today I decided to open them up. I want to get some more items checked off though! Anyways, that shows you were I stand on my projects. I think I am doing pretty well on them so far.

Today I was looking at information and emailed for more info for the RFTC run/walks. I am hoping I can get 2 of those in this coming October. All depends on the dates. I had to email a friend to get some information also that will come in handy. I want to get a team together to walk in honor of my mom, in honor of my aunt, in memory of another aunt and for honor/memory of patients I have had.

Then there is the 3 day walk that my niece wants us to do. Oh my! I just attempted a 24 mile walk and did okay though didn't finish it. I also was just walking to support the few who really were doing this. I needed to know what I can and couldn't do. I did better than I thought I would. I think there was some frustration that was keeping me going too thanks to someone close.

Buy a Goat/Chicken/Something from www.worldvision.com

I began looking at the worldvision.com site about buying a goat/chicken/something today, 9/29/2010. I wanted to start knowing what I was going to start saving for in order to complete this. I wanted to get the most for whomever is going to benefit from this. I think I am already going to continue this after even this one time. I like the opportunity to help others. As I look at the items in the catalog, I wish I could do more then I am able to at the time. I know I have over 2 years to do this. I think that I am going to do a gift that has more than one animal. I dont want to do a share of an animal nor do I want to give a stuffed animal. Maybe one day, I can do the gift of 28 animals for $2000.

Write a Letter to 5 People Who Have Changed My Life

My first letter, on 12/31/2010, was to my sister. I don't think that I am going to elaborate why I picked her on here. She is amazing though. I am so blessed to have her back to the way I remember her. I am so proud of her and wouldn't trade her for anything.

3/25/2011- I am wondering about one of my letters. What if you can't mail it? Does that still count? Not so much to me, but there is one I need to write. We will see. I have gotten in contact with someone from my past that I would like to write to that ties to this one I can't mail if I write it. There is also someone else that I talk to from my past that I think I should write also... There are about 6-7 others I could write too... just debating about who.

4/25/2011- I wrote my second letter yesterday. This one went to my Mom... or will. I will give it to her on Mother's Day. She is an amazing woman. I guess amazing women run in the family. There is a 3rd one that I may be writing to for one of these letters. I realized there are definitely more than 5 that I want to write too about with a letter like these. I came to the conclusion that they don't have to be limited to 5, but the first 5 are the ones that are going to count here. After that, then they will go to on the list of a letter a month.

Send 10 Postcards via www.postcrossing.com

11/30/2010 ~ I just created my account to do my 10 postcards on postcrossing.com and am looking forward to what it brings. I think that this will be interesting and I am glad I kept the PO Box that I had temporarily set up for a friend who was homeless.

What is postcrossing? It's a project that allows anyone to receive postcards (real ones, not electronic) from random places in the world. You can read more on the link provided above.

My first card I am sending is going to Germany. I think that is cool. I'm going to try to find a way or place to make my own post cards using my own photos. I don't want them to be mailed for me though or type written. That is a little impersonal I think.

I have gone back and added 4 other postcards to be sent. In addition to Germany, I am also sending to Brazil, Russia, Netherlands and Taiwan. I have created postcards from my own photos to send to these individuals. I think it's pretty cool.

A Disney/Facebook friend has also started to do this also.

12/10/2010 - I mailed out my 5 postcards. I was excited to send postcards that I made from my own photos also. They turned out very nicely too. I don't know if I want to make some others ahead of time or wait to see what the individuals are looking for or have favorites of. I can't always accommodate what they may want.

12/15/2010 - my first postcard was registered as received. This was the one to Germany.

12/23/2010 - My postcard to the Netherlands was received.

12/28/2010 - I received my first postcard. It came from the Netherlands.

12/30/2010 - The postcard to Brazil was received.

1/1/2011 - I am going to wait for a bit before I send more. I want to make more postcards but being I have a few other priorities I want to take care of first, this can wait.

1/5/2011 - I received 2 postcards today. One from Kyiv, Ukraine and the other from Turin, Italy. I also started a postcard blog to share the pictures of the postcards.

Paint My Toes Hot Pink with Black Polka Dots on April 1st in Memory of Nicole

4/1/2011 - I had my toes painted hot pink a couple days ago when I saw my nail tech and she had added a black mickey heads on each of my big toes. This morning, I added the additional black polka dots. It looked cute. Next time though I will have Casey do the dots ahead of time with my pedicure or if I just go in for a polish change. I showed one of my patients who is a cancer survivor and fighting again. She loved it and laughed out loud. I should've taken a picture of them, but to be honest, a lot of my dots smudged. =0)

Completed: Pay for 3 People Behind Me at Starbucks or Toll

Today, 10/4/2010, was a duplicate kind of item for my list. It also falls on my random acts of kindness for a stranger. I bought the person behind me at Starbucks Grande White Mocha. I asked the server to just tell her to pay it forward somewhere. The server said, "Awww thanks! That is so sweet of you!" I hope that it was the best White Mocha she ever had.

This morning, 12/1/2010, I paid for someone's lattes. Turned out he had ordered 2. Wasn't a big deal. Again I asked the server to tell the driver to pay it forward somewhere else for someone else. Hope they enjoyed it!

Yesterday, 2/26/2011, I paid for the toll for the car behind me on the Turnpike. It REALLY worked out perfectly, since I had forgotten my Sunpass and had to use cash there. I sped away, and for a little bit, they tried to catch up. I just wanted to do that something nice and not be thanked. The tolltaker did say thank you though. =o)

So another task completed and blog updated.

Update

Hey there! I have been working on my list of tasks but nothing is able to be updated for a post. One of my friends who is participating blogs when he does one of the tasks when it has multiple items. That is something I am going to consider changing up on this blog vs, when the whole task is completed. I just want to weigh my options on this and how I feel about that. The other thing I could do is just do an update on what tasks I have been working on currently.

Well, it's Sunday and I am going to get ready for church and then I am off to do a random gift. =o) Have a wonderful day everyone!

Being Nice

I have gotten a lot of comments from friends regarding the "nice" things I do and will keep doing for others. I came across a nice blog the other day through a blog I follow. This blog is ALL about being nice. Melissa is the author and she has assignments, notes, news, campaigns and more! I have been perusing the site here and there, and have found some of the suggestions or assignments that I have incorporated here on my 101 in 1001 tasks. With all that I am finding lately amongst people in the world (and some acquaintances) with all their pessimism and negativity, their eagerness to tear down others because they are jealous of the others happiness or insecure about themselves, attacking those who just go with the flow and are "nice", I find this a welcome change. It's refreshing and shows that there is so much good still out there. It has a great karma around it that when I read it and think, I feel more positive energy flowing through me. Maybe Melissa's nice blog may help you find ideas for your 101 tasks in 1001 days.

So, where can you find this niceness? At Operation NICE.

Something Extra

Back when I was doing my random acts of kindness to strangers, I had been over at one of the Assisted Living Facilities that I go to to attend to come patients. I learned about a resident at the ALF that didn't have any family here. There is family in Romania but no one knew how she got to the States. Irma was in the care of the State of Florida. I had asked before Christmas, if they had any residents who didn't have anyone. That is how I was introduced to Irma. Outside groups brought in lots of gifts for the residents (blankets, pillows, bath lotions and slippers etc). But I asked what did she actually need. A sweater.

I had told one of the aides, that after Christmas, I will be able to get her a sweater (something she needed). I hadn't been to the ALF since Christmas weekend and today I was there. I stopped and got the sweater for Irma. I learned that she passed away around New Years. I feel bad that she died alone. A couple girls at the ALF and I had said that if we won the lottery, we would send her home to her family. Did they send her home????

The sweater I bought, I told Crystal to give to another resident. I am glad that there is someone else who can make use of it. I may add adopting a senior for a year that has no one to my list for next time. I know that Irma is free from her bonds of Dementia now.

Edit: 1/23/2011 ~ I saw the resident who got the sweater today when I was there to admit a patient to services. She told me thank you for the sweater. I told her that she was very welcome, that it was a pleasure to give it to her and that I hoped that it will keep her nice and warm. I also learned that she is a breast cancer survivor.

Already Planning

I have already 21 items on my next list (plus a couple maybes). I keep seeing where I can tweak my current list and do more for others. I am working a little on my current list today, but they are ones that have multiple parts to that item.
